Our Class Teachers are Mrs Pattison, Mrs Jackson and Mrs Hume.
In the EYFS at Burnside Primary School we aim to create memories of learning that will last a lifetime.
Our Nursery and Reception staff work closely together to ensure that each child’s time in the EYFS is exciting, engaging and memorable.
Early Years education is much more than just learning numbers and letters. It is about developing the whole child – learning to be confident, sociable, independent and inquisitive. It is about having a positive attitude and forming positive relationships.
Staff will help children to build upon the experiences they have already gained at home. Young children learn by watching and doing, exploring and investigating and listening and speaking. If children are encouraged to “have a go” they can learn from their mistakes and not be afraid to try again.
These carefully planned opportunities link to the characteristics of effective learning, these are:
- Playing and Exploring;
- Active Learning;
- Creating and thinking critically.
Your child will be learning skills, acquiring new knowledge and demonstrating their understanding through 7 areas of learning and development.
Children should mostly develop the 3 prime areas first. These are:
- Communication and language;
- Physical development;
- Personal, social and emotional development.
These prime areas are those most essential for your child’s healthy development and future learning.
As children grow, the prime areas will help them to develop skills in 4 specific areas. These are:
- Understanding the world;
- Expressive arts and design.
The children are supported and challenged to develop their own learning in engaging environments both indoors and outdoors.
Details of what we will be studying this term can be found under Curriculum Plans in Our Curriculum section
